Considered care.
Personal to you.
A chemical peel applies a selected solution to create controlled exfoliation. Depending on the formulation and depth, it may be considered for rough texture, congestion, selected superficial pigmentation or fine lines. The doctor assesses your skin tone, barrier, medicines and tendency to pigment or scar before recommending a peel.

Barrier and recoveryMICHIKO · YOUR QUESTIONS, EXPLAINED
A superficial peel may be considered for selected texture, congestion and colour concerns. Deeper peels have a different recovery and risk profile and are not automatically appropriate for darker skin tones or every type of pigmentation. A peel does not correct substantial skin laxity or all acne scars. The treatment should have a clear purpose rather than a goal of maximum visible peeling.
Peeling solutions may use acids such as glycolic, lactic, salicylic or trichloroacetic acid, depending on the clinician’s purpose. Concentration alone does not determine the effect: formulation, contact time, preparation and technique also matter. This overview does not mean that every peel type is offered at MICHIKO. Ask the doctor which specific solution and depth are being proposed and why.
Tell the doctor about retinoids, isotretinoin, acids, waxing, lasers, herpes, pregnancy, scarring tendency and recent sun exposure. The clinic should give individual instructions on which products to pause and when. Do not stop prescribed medicines or intensify exfoliation in preparation on your own. Inflamed, sunburnt or broken skin may need time to recover first.
Depending on the peel, skin may feel tight and show redness, dryness, darkening or flaking. Some light peels produce little visible peeling. Avoid picking, rubbing or adding strong actives before the skin is ready. Use the recommended cleanser, moisturiser and sun protection. Increasing pain, blistering, oozing or spreading redness warrants prompt clinical advice.
Discuss the recovery window before choosing a date, especially before outdoor activities, a beach holiday or an important event. Possible complications include persistent redness, pigment change, infection and scarring. Your skin’s response should determine whether and when another peel is worthwhile. The quote should specify the peel, area and follow-up.

MICHIKO · A CLOSER LOOK
Bring details of previous procedures, current medicines and supplements, allergies and any recent skin reaction. Tell the doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Mention work, travel and event dates so the plan can account for recovery and follow-up. Do not stop prescribed medicines without advice.
Use gentle cleansing, the recommended moisturiser and consistent sun protection. Do not pick darkened areas or crusts. Ask when to resume active skincare and exercise. Unexpected blistering, worsening pain or signs of infection need clinical advice.
Agree on a review point and the change you are hoping to see. Your response, side effects and priorities should guide the next step. Ask for a clear quote covering the proposed product or method, quantity where relevant, and follow-up.
BEFORE YOU VISIT
Not necessarily. Visible flaking depends on the peel; it is not the only measure of response. Review the original treatment goal with the clinician.
Yes, irritation can lead to pigment changes. Skin tone, previous reactions, peel selection and aftercare all matter.
