Why do temples look hollow?
Natural facial structure and changes in bone, fat and skin with age can influence temple contour. Similar-looking hollows do not necessarily share the same cause or treatment plan.
THE CONCERNExplore temporal filler with a plan built around your concern, your anatomy and your everyday life.
Temporal filler, also called temple filler, uses hyaluronic acid gel to restore selected areas of lost volume. Assessment looks at the temples, forehead, brow and cheek together, with careful consideration of the vessels and tissue layers in this area.

ILLUSTRATIVE AREAS · PERSONAL ASSESSMENT COMES FIRST
Natural facial structure and changes in bone, fat and skin with age can influence temple contour. Similar-looking hollows do not necessarily share the same cause or treatment plan.
THE CONCERNThe transition from the forehead through the temple to the cheek affects the overall contour. The goal is proportion and continuity, not making every temple as full as possible. Front and side views help guide the discussion.
THE CONNECTIONYour anatomy, the product, previous injections and the intended change determine the proposal. Ask about the planned amount and why it is appropriate; another patient’s photograph is not a dose guide.

The concern. The cause. The possibilities.
MICHIKO describes two temple-filler approaches. Basic refers to selected deep placement with a needle; Advanced describes cannula-based contour work in another tissue plane. The names describe a clinical approach, not a better-versus-worse package. Dr. Gift and our medical team assess the hollow, tissue thickness, movement and previous filler before explaining which approach may fit your face.
Both require careful anatomical assessment. A needle, cannula or aspiration check cannot eliminate vascular risk. The goal is a smooth transition from forehead to temple and cheek, with the proposed amount and limits explained before treatment.
HA filler and fat transfer can both be discussed for volume loss, but they involve different procedures, recovery and predictability. Fat transfer requires harvesting your own fat and has variable survival; HA filler uses a manufactured gel and some unwanted HA can be assessed for hyaluronidase treatment. Neither option is automatically risk-free, permanent or suitable for every hollow.
Filler may suit a concern involving a loss of volume or support. It may be less helpful when excess skin or another cause dominates. Tell the doctor about previous filler, surgery, medicines, allergies and any active skin problem. Suitability is decided at consultation.
The right role for each approach.

The Thai artwork shows several hyaluronic-acid filler ranges discussed for deeper structural support. It is a product overview, not a recommendation to use every displayed product in the temples. The material, technique and amount are selected after assessment.
View original graphic at full sizeSupportive HA gels can be considered for selected deep correction and more flexible products, including Restylane Volyme, for contour integration. Elasticity, cohesion, tissue thickness and movement matter alongside the brand name. A product used in one plane is not automatically appropriate in another.
Ask for the exact brand and model, Thai registration information, sealed packaging and batch details. The doctor should explain the reason for that choice, the proposed amount and how an existing product affects the plan.
A sharp needle and a blunt cannula offer different access and placement characteristics. The choice depends on anatomy, the intended tissue plane, product and the clinician’s assessment. Neither tool removes the possibility of vessel injury or other complications.
Ask which part of the hollow the plan addresses and why. Temple filler aims to soften a hollow and improve the transition beside the forehead and cheekbone; it cannot guarantee a brow lift or change the width of the underlying bone.
Know what comes before and after.

Mild tenderness, swelling or bruising can occur, but a persistent headache, increasing swelling, a new lump or a change that worries you needs contact with the treating clinic. Do not diagnose the cause from a photograph or massage the area firmly yourself. Tell the doctor when symptoms started and whether they are getting worse.
Severe unusual pain, pale or dusky skin, or any visual change needs immediate medical attention. A negative aspiration test during injection does not rule out a later complication.
Ask your treating doctor for advice suited to the placement and any tenderness. Avoid deliberate firm pressure or rubbing until the area is comfortable and follow the aftercare you receive. If a position causes pain, change position and contact the clinic if symptoms persist.
Bring previous treatment dates, products and photographs if available. Tell the doctor about medicines, supplements, allergies, medical conditions, pregnancy or breastfeeding, and any infection or irritation near the area. Ask about the intended product, alternatives, cost and follow-up before consenting.
Some medicines and supplements can affect bruising or bleeding. Do not stop prescribed medicines yourself; any change should be agreed with the prescribing clinician. Ask the clinic about alcohol, exercise and other preparations relevant to your appointment.
Follow your treating doctor’s instructions for skin care, activity, pressure on the area and the timing of other procedures. Mild swelling, tenderness or bruising can happen. Avoid firm massage unless the clinician specifically advises it, and ask how and when to use a cool compress.
Contact the clinic for increasing swelling, persistent pain, redness, warmth or a new lump. Severe unusual pain, pale or dusky skin, or vision changes need immediate medical attention. Keep the urgent contact details and attend the agreed follow-up; an early swollen photograph is not the final result.
The temple contains important vessels and multiple tissue layers. Discuss suitability, the clinician’s assessment, complications and an urgent-contact plan. Swelling and bruising can occur; serious vascular complications are uncommon but possible.
Begin with your concerns and treatment history. Your doctor assesses the relevant area, explains suitable options and agrees the plan, price and follow-up with you. Ask which product or device will be used, why it was selected and what the plan includes before giving consent.
Swelling, bruising and tenderness can occur after filler. Rare blood-vessel complications can be serious. Vision changes, severe unusual pain or pale or dusky skin after injection require immediate medical attention. Ask for written aftercare and an urgent contact number.
An early photograph can be affected by swelling. Agree a review time with the treating doctor and assess facial balance after the initial reaction has settled. Longevity varies with the product, area, anatomy and treatment history.
